Hello and welcome to my stop on the blog tour for Ginger Snapped: A Cybercrime Thriller with a Shocking Twist! Many thanks to the author Chloe Sunstone and Shannon from R&R Book Tours for this opportunity!
How does an amazing professional opportunity descend into a living nightmare?
Carefree Ginger's motto of “Work Hard, Play Harder” shapes her life. So when her husband, Jake, gets a job offer on the other side of the country, she is up for the adventure. But after Jake accepts the promotion, nothing is as expected. While Ginger remains in Cleveland to sell their house, she is plagued by strange prank calls, premonition-like nightmares, and the feeling that she is being watched. Is Jake's new job putting her in danger?
Unfortunately, she ignores her intuition and soon finds herself face to face with a ruthless killer. Trapped in a deadly world of corporate corruption and murderous greed, she must overcome her own fears and rely on her wits if she plans to survive.
Although the first in the Ginger Gibson series, this is a standalone book.
💛💛💛
Ginger Snapped hits the ground running with a rather shocking scene, and then takes a step back to allow us to get to know Ginger and her hubby Jake.
Now, I’m sure many of you will disagree, but the relationship between Ginger and Jake is a tad too sugary for my tastes. I'm not a romance reader for this very reason: things get too sugary for my tastes rather quickly. This is by no means a romance novel, I’m just saying that I tend to agree with Ginger’s friends who tease her about how nauseatingly sweet she and Jake are. And I appreciate that you love your man, Ginger, and that you think he’s the bee’s knees and the very sharpest tool in the shed and all that but, honey, knowing how Spotify works does not an IT genius make. So yeah, our Ginger is a bit on the naïve side, but she’s kind and sweet and entirely likeable and rest assured, when she has to, she’s not afraid to show her teeth...
For those of you who are a bit spooked by the denomination cyber-crime thriller, don’t be! If anything, I’m a teeny tiny bit disappointed at how little cyber talk is in there. And the little lingo there is, is immediately translated into layman’s terms because there’s a somewhat older policeman who is technologically challenged and needs it laid out for him. My expectations were a little off, I think. I was expecting something more along the lines of Ernest Cline’s Ready Player One (but without the videogames) meets The Matrix (but without Keanu), you know, hackers behind computers typing at lightning speed doing all sort of hackery things in the present, yet in a bit of a futuristic, technological setting. However, there’s very little of that. It reads more like an episode of White Collar, really. But hey, I’m not complaining, I watched all six seasons.
Now, let’s talk about the “shocking twist” for a moment. I have to tell you, I’m very wary of announced shocking twists, because usually I find the twist not all that shocking and/or I see it coming from miles away. Well, not this time. Chloe Sunstone well and truly fooled me and I loved the finale!
Overall, an entertaining read that knew how to grab my attention and hold it until the final pages. If you’re looking for a quick and easy read to hit the ground running with your Goodreads challenge, you may want to look into this one!
